KATHMANDU: Landslide debris has been successfully cleared from two locations along the Chitwan section of the Prithvi Highway today, though vehicular movement remains completely suspended due to an ongoing blockage on the Dhading side.

The highway was initially obstructed this morning when landslides struck Panidhara and Chumkhola within Ichhyakamana Rural Municipality-2 in Chitwan. While authorities managed to clear these particular debris piles and technically reopen the Chitwan stretch by 9:30 AM, actual travel remains impossible.

Superintendent of Police Rameshwar Paudel, chief of the District Police Office, explained that a separate, massive landslide at Jawang Khola in Dhading is preventing vehicles from moving forward despite the progress made in Chitwan.

As a result of the unresolved blockage in Dhading, vehicles heading out from Chitwan have been stranded and stopped at Chumlingtar, Kurintar, and Muglin, leading to long traffic queues along the road.

In contrast, vehicles traveling to and from Pokhara via the Narayangadh-Muglin road section have been operating smoothly since this morning.

Local authorities had proactively banned vehicular movement since last night on both the Narayangadh-Muglin road and the Prithvi Highway due to heightened landslide risks.

As stranded vehicles have been stuck since last night, extensive traffic jams continue to impact the area.
