KATHMANDU: Continuous rainfall has triggered widespread floods and landslides, crippling vehicular movement across major highways in Koshi and Bagmati provinces as of July 20.
In Koshi, landslides have entirely blocked the Mechi Highway in Ilam, the Mid-Hill Highway in Khotang, and the Siddhicharan Highway in Udayapur, while traffic remains single-lane in Bhojpur.
The situation is equally severe in Bagmati Province, where landslides have completely halted traffic on the BP Highway in Kavre, the Arniko Highway in Sindhupalchok, and the Prithvi Highway at Fisling in Chitwan.
Additionally, authorities have suspended travel on the Khurkot-Nepalthok-Katunjebesi section and Makwanpur’s Kanti Lokpath due to high risks.
While authorities have managed to open single-lane traffic on the Pasang Lhamu Highway in Rasuwa and parts of the Prithvi Highway in Dhading, another landslide at Jowang Khola has caused further blockages.
Efforts are actively underway to clear the debris and restore traffic.
