KATHMANDU: A total of 338 local units have completed land-use classification as part of the government’s push to implement land-use planning and management.

According to the Ministry of Land, Cooperatives, and Federal Affairs and General Administration, the local units finalized plot-by-plot classification after updating maps, criteria, and standards by May 14.

Another 169 local units have completed data collection and map updates, while 134 are currently updating maps after preparing standards. Fifty local units are still preparing classification criteria, and 47 have yet to begin the process.

Joint Secretary Ganesh Prasad Bhatta said local governments have authority over land classification under existing laws.

The government has set July 16 as the deadline for all local units to complete the process.
