KATHMANDU: Participants at the two-day United Nations World Indigenous Youth Conference 2026 emphasized the need for greater youth involvement in climate justice, environmental protection, food security, and the promotion of indigenous rights.
The conference, organized by the Youth Federation of Indigenous Nationalities Nepal and the National Youth Council, concluded on Sunday after discussions on indigenous peoples’ rights, youth participation in global forums, and challenges facing indigenous communities.
According to YFIN-Nepal President Kiran Shrestha, the event also focused on preparing a Global Youth Declaration and Action Plan. Representatives from across the country shared views on self-determination, development challenges, and the role of young people in advancing indigenous movements.
