KATHMANDU: The Department of Passport, under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has officially operationalized its new passport production and management system after successfully completing the largest data migration in the nation’s history.
The data of approximately 10 million Nepali citizens has been securely transferred to the upgraded system, which went live on July 13.
The department noted that following the transition and “Go-Live” phase of such a massive information technology infrastructure, initial minor technical issues, system slowness, and slight delays in passport distribution are natural.
To address these hiccups, technical teams, departmental staff, and system development experts are working around the clock on a 24-hour standby basis to continuously monitor, test, and optimize the system for swift resolution.
In light of the ongoing system stabilization, the department has made an appeal to the public, requesting that only service seekers with urgent passport requirements submit applications during this initial phase.
Authorities emphasized that public cooperation will greatly assist in making the new system stable and effective.
Additionally, citizens have been urged to rely solely on official notices published by the department or the ministry to avoid misinformation.
