KATHMANDU: The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has submitted a memorandum to Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR) Dol Prasad Aryal on Monday.

The FNJ submitted the memorandum urging the HoR Speaker not to interfere on and limit press freedom and freedom of expression in course of constitution amendment and in the laws making process and implementation of laws, FNJ Chairperson Nirmala Sharma stated.
On the occasion, HoR Speaker said that he was always committed to press freedom.

The FNJ delegation also submitted the memo to National Assembly Chair Narayan Prasad Dahal and Chairperson of Parliamentary Committee on Education, Health and Information Technology Dr Ojashwi Sherchan.

The government has formed a taskforce to prepare a concept note for constitution amendment. “The FNJ suggests that it will be appropriate to from the high-level constitution amendment recommendation taskforce on the basis of a broad consensus of all political parties in the parliament regarding the critical issue like constitution amendment,” the FNJ stated.

The FNJ has mentioned that press freedom should be ensured to further strengthen federal democratic republic.
