KATHMANDU: The inquiry commission formed to investigate the human and property losses during the Gen Z protest of September 8 and 9, 2025 will submit its report to the government Sunday at 11:00 AM, as results from the House of Representatives elections continue to arrive.
According to Prime Minister’s Press Advisor Ram Bahadur Rawal, commission chairman Gauri Bahadur Karki will present the report to Prime Minister Sushila Karki.
The government formed the commission on September 21, 2025, giving it an initial three-month mandate. After failing to complete its work on time, the government extended the deadline three times, including one month on December 23, 2025 and 20 days on January 22, with the final term ending March 9.
The commission became controversial after questions were raised about its impartiality, as Karki had earlier expressed views about the protests on social media. The appointment led to a writ petition in the Supreme Court challenging his role.
In its ruling, the Supreme Court stated that whether someone who has already expressed opinions on an incident should accept the post of inquiry commission chair ultimately depends on that individual’s moral judgment and conscience.
