KATHMANDU: The government has decided not to recruit new permanent employees across government offices during the current fiscal year, suspending requests to the Public Service Commission (PSC) for permanent vacancy fulfillment.
The decision was made at a meeting of government secretaries chaired by Chief Secretary Govinda Bahadur Karki on Monday. Under the decision, no government office will be allowed to fill permanent vacancies or submit requests to the PSC for recruitment without prior approval from the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers.
The move is aimed at managing employees who have become surplus following the government’s recent organizational restructuring and management survey, which reduced the number of approved positions in several agencies.
The government has also reduced the number of ministries from 22 to 18 and merged several government bodies. Officials said the recruitment freeze will allow the government to manage employees already appointed through previously completed recruitment processes before considering new hiring.
