KATHMANDU: The government has begun providing monthly medical support expenses to people injured during the Gen-Z protests after classifying the severity of their injuries.

According to Dr. Prakash Budhathoki, chief of the Health Emergency Operation Center under the Ministry of Health and Population, the injured protesters were categorized based on hospital admissions recorded on September 8 and 9.

“We classified the injured individuals involved in the Gen Z protests based on those admitted to hospitals on September 8 and 9,” he said. “Accordingly, the Ministry of Home Affairs has started providing monthly financial assistance for treatment expenses.”

He stated that the government decided to provide Rs 9,000 per month to critically injured individuals and to caregivers assisting them. Seriously injured individuals will also receive Rs 9,000 per month, while moderately injured individuals will receive Rs 4,000 per month. No financial support will be provided to those classified as having minor injuries.

In addition, all individuals injured during the Gen Z protests have been provided a one-time payment of Rs 35,000, he added.

539 injured classified into four categories

A total of 539 people injured during the Gen Z movement have been classified into four categories based on identity cards provided by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

According to Dr. Prakash Budhathoki, chief of the Health Emergency Operation Center, the classification process was completed in five phases.

Of the injured, 29 were categorized as critically injured, 130 as seriously injured, 85 as moderately injured, and 295 as having minor injuries.
