KATHMANDU: Nepal News has obtained the letter issued by the Home Ministry and circulated through the Police Headquarters, which led to the arrest of former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak.
The letter directed the police to immediately implement the report of the inquiry commission led by Gauri Bahadur Karki, which investigated the events during the September 08-09 protests. It included two specific instructions, which were relayed from the headquarters to district offices. Acting on this directive, the police arrested Oli and Lekhak following yesterday’s cabinet meeting, which endorsed the implementation of the commission’s recommendations. Subject: Regarding Necessary Action.
In reference to the above subject, a letter from the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers (Ref. No. Ma.Bai./321/3385, dated 2082/12/13) has been received for the implementation of the decision made by the meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Government of Nepal on 2082/12/13, as follows:
Regarding the report submitted to the Government of Nepal by the commission formed to investigate the incidents that occurred during the demonstrations on the 23rd and 24th of Bhadra, 2082 (September 08-09, 2025), the following actions shall be taken for immediate implementation:
(a) Regarding the individuals and bodies within the security apparatus recommended by the aforementioned commission, a study committee shall be formed, and actions shall be taken as per the recommendations submitted by that committee.
(b) Regarding others, instructions shall be given to the relevant agencies to immediately implement the recommendations made by the commission. To implement the aforementioned decision of the Council of Ministers, it is requested as per the (Ministerial-level) decision dated 2082/12/13 to move forward with the implementation process of the commission’s recommendations regarding the then Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli and the then Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, with the commission’s report received from the Council of Ministers attached herewith.
