KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court of Nepal has issued an interim order directing authorities not to demolish squatter settlements across the country.

On Friday, a joint bench of Justices Kumar Regmi and Nityananda Pandey issued the interim order.

The order came in response to a writ petition filed by Majid Ansari, who had sought a temporary stay on the government’s actions of using bulldozers to demolish squatter settlements anywhere in Nepal.

The government had earlier decided to remove squatter settlements and had already carried out demolition drives in various parts of the country using bulldozers.
