KATHMANDU: The Second National Economic Census has begun across Nepal to collect comprehensive data for assessing the national economy and guiding development planning. The National Statistics Office has mobilized 4,433 trained enumerators and supervisors, with data collection set to continue until June 21.

A total of 84 district-level census offices have been established, covering 18 out of 21 economic sectors based on international industrial classification. The census includes industries, trade, services, private businesses, cooperatives, public enterprises, non-governmental organizations, schools, and hospitals, while excluding diplomatic missions, security agencies, and household activities.

To strengthen the process, an electronic census system has been introduced through an online platform, and census areas have been mapped using the Geographic Information System. Coordination committees have been formed from central to local levels, alongside collaboration with local governments, ward offices, and business sectors, supported by nationwide awareness campaigns through radio, television, and digital media.

Authorities have urged businesses and institutions to provide accurate and complete information, assuring that all collected data will remain confidential under the National Statistics Act 2022.
