KATHMANDU: Speaker Dol Prasad (DP) Aryal held a courtesy meeting with Kyoko Yokosuka, Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Nepal.

During the meeting held today at Singha Durbar, the Speaker expressed his keen interest in digitalization and the development of an e-Parliament, informing UNDP representative Yokosuka that preparations are underway to move the legislature toward a paperless system.

According to the Speaker’s Secretariat, he said further discussions would be held on the modality of cooperation after reviewing the memorandum of understanding related to this initiative.

UNDP Resident Representative Yokosuka expressed readiness to expand cooperation in areas such as capacity-building of lawmakers, women’s empowerment, and the upliftment of marginalized communities.

She also conveyed UNDP’s willingness to support the development of a digital parliament through collaboration with parliamentary committees and programs for experience sharing, the Speaker’s Secretariat added.

Speaker Aryal also emphasized the need for cooperation to enhance the capacity of women lawmakers.
