BIRATNAGAR: Home Minister Sudhan Gurung spent five hours on Saturday in Biratnagar, the capital of Koshi Province.

From landing at the airport at 11:00 AM until departing for Sunsari at 4:00 PM, he conducted on-site inspections of four government agencies, including local security bodies, and the Nepal-India border region.

The Home Minister’s first destination was the District Administration Office, Morang. While inspecting the office building and its premises, he inquired about the utilization of the land registered under the administration’s name and the delivery of public services.

“I had no idea there was this much land here,” Minister Gurung told the Chief District Officer. “The land is sufficient; it would be much easier for service-seekers if arrangements could be made to deliver integrated services from a single complex.”

He instructed authorities to utilize the government land properly and to bring scattered services together under one roof.

Following this, he proceeded to the Koshi Province Police Office. There, he took briefings on the overall peace and security situation of the province.

The Province Police Chief, DIG Binod Ghimire, briefed him on the security challenges and police performance in Koshi Province.

After the briefing at the police office, Home Minister Gurung went straight to the Nepal-India border region (Jogbani border point).

Having arrived to understand the security situation and issues surrounding smuggling, he also listened to the problems faced by the security personnel deployed there.

Speaking with media personnel, he acknowledged that while the border area is massive, the number of security personnel and available technology remains low.

“The work is challenging, and there is a lack of CCTV cameras and modern surveillance systems,” he said. “It was also observed that security personnel lack adequate living space, and we have taken initiatives in the budget to address this.”

During his inspection of the border area, he also visited the Integrated Check Post (ICP) at the Biratnagar Customs Office.

He emphasized that coordination among all three tiers of government is crucial to control revenue leakage and halt illegal trade.

On the same occasion, he conveyed a message that work related to development and security must be carried out by rising above political party interests.

Toward the end of his stay in Biratnagar, he inspected the building of the District Police Office, Morang.

After being updated on the physical condition and human resources of the Morang Police, he departed for Sunsari at 4:00 PM.

Having completed his inspections of various agencies in Biratnagar, Home Minister Gurung is scheduled to inspect security bodies in Sunsari today before heading to Dhankuta.
