KATHMANDU: The government has formed a Commission of Inquiry on Assets to collect and investigate the asset details of major political office-bearers and high-ranking officials who have held public office from 2005/06 to 2025/26.

A Cabinet meeting held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers on Wednesday decided to constitute a four-member commission under the coordination of former Supreme Court justice Rajendra Kumar Bhandari.

The members of the commission include former justices Chandi Raj Dhakal and Purushottam Parajuli, former Deputy Inspector General of Police Ganesh KC, and chartered accountant Prakash Lamsal.

Following the formation of the government under Prime Minister Balendra Shah, the Cabinet had, on March 27, decided to form such a committee within 15 days. The provision was also included in point 43 of the government’s publicly announced 100-point governance reform agenda.

The agenda states that, in order to end widespread corruption, concealment of assets, and impunity in the country, a powerful asset investigation commission would be formed within 15 days under the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers.

It further said that the investigation process will be conducted in a lawful, evidence-based, and impartial manner, and that arrangements will be made to implement the commission’s reports and recommendations through the concerned authorities.
