KATHMANDU: The task force formed to prepare a discussion paper on constitution amendment has officially begun drafting its proposal after concluding extensive consultations.
Formed under the coordination of Asim Shah, political advisor to Prime Minister Balendra Shah, the task force has collected feedback from key stakeholders, including former presidents, political party leaders, constitutional experts, and civil society.
To further solidify the draft, the team recently held a collective discussion with former Prime Ministers Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda”, Madhav Kumar Nepal, and Jhalanath Khanal.
Former Prime Ministers have emphasized that any constitutional amendment must preserve the core spirit of the constitution while seeking broad national consensus and ensuring political stability.
The draft focuses on eight core areas aimed at holistic state reform.
Key topics under review include reforming the governance model, restructuring the election system to be more inclusive and managing the threshold for political parties.
Additionally, the task force is drafting recommendations to streamline provincial ministries, determine the nature of local government, and reform the judiciary and Judicial Council to ensure complete independence and accountability.
