KATHMANDU: A combination of a western low-pressure trough in the upper atmosphere and local winds is expected to trigger rainfall and snowfall across various parts of Nepal.

According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division, the weather is currently generally cloudy over most hilly and mountainous regions, including Gandaki, Lumbini, and Karnali provinces, while the Terai plains remain partly cloudy.

Light rain is already being reported in parts of Lumbini Province, alongside isolated areas in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Karnali.

The weather is expected to remain unsettled through Friday afternoon, with generally cloudy skies predicted for Koshi, Madhesh, and Bagmati provinces, as well as the wider hilly and mountainous belts.

The division warns that Koshi and Madhesh provinces, along with several high-altitude areas, are highly likely to experience moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning, while isolated showers may hit the Terai plains of Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini.

These conditions are projected to persist into the night, maintaining cloudy skies over Koshi Province and other hilly regions.

Forecasters expect continued moderate rain, thunder, and lightning in parts of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, with chances of light snowfall in the high-altitude mountain regions and brief rain in the Terai plains of Madhesh, Bagmati, and Gandaki.

Due to the potential risk of rain, lightning, and snow, the Meteorological Forecasting Division has urged the public to stay alert, warning that the weather could partially disrupt daily life, agricultural activities, and both road and air transport.
