KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress (NC) is making preparations to modernize its electoral process by introducing technology for its upcoming 15th Central General Convention.
A meeting of the Central Election Committee held on Sunday decided to prioritize a digital (paperless) system or Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) technology for the upcoming internal elections.
The meeting, chaired by the committee’s coordinator and senior advocate Prem Bahadur Khadka, stated that necessary preparations have been initiated to ensure the general convention is conducted in a clean, fair, and organized manner within the scheduled timeframe.
Furthermore, the committee has urged all tiers and bodies of the party, including the Central Working Committee, to strictly abide by the election code of conduct, which takes effect as soon as the election process begins.
It was decided that the code of conduct must be rigorously followed throughout the election period unless explicitly stated otherwise in the party’s constitution.
In another key decision, the committee resolved to prioritize female legal practitioners for the roles of election officers across the Kathmandu Valley—specifically covering the districts of Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Lalitpur, along with their 15 constituencies, metropolitan cities, and municipalities.
To ensure skilled manpower is deployed for election management, the committee also decided to call for volunteers from legal professionals and other professional groups to create a roster. These volunteers will undergo orientation sessions and be mobilized as election officers based on requirements.
Gathering experiences, feedback, and opinions from past coordinators, members, and election officers, the Central Election Committee has appealed for positive cooperation from all stakeholders.
Committee Member Secretary Raju Katuwal shared that the decisions made during the meeting will be formally submitted to the Nepali Congress Central Working Committee for information.
