KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Rameshore Prasad Khanal has returned the diplomatic passport he had been using, stating that its purpose has ended.
Khanal submitted the passport to the Administration Division of the Ministry of Finance, requesting that it be forwarded to the Department of Passports under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nepal.
In the letter accompanying the passport, he wrote, “As the purpose of the diplomatic passport provided to me for use in the capacity of Finance Minister has ended, I request you to return the attached passport to the Department of Passports of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.”
Diplomatic passports had been issued to Khanal and other ministers for official purposes. However, other ministers have not publicly disclosed whether they have returned theirs. Khanal, a former finance secretary, became finance minister in the government formed after the Gen Z Protest of September 2025 in Nepal.
