KATHMANDU: Police have decided to release former Kathmandu Chief District Officer Chhabi Rijal on bail following his arrest in connection with the Gen-Z protest crackdown.

According to the District Police Range Kathmandu, the joint secretary-level official has been released on the condition that he appears before authorities when summoned.

Rijal was serving as Kathmandu’s CDO during the Gen Z protests held on September 08-09, 2025. He faces allegations of ordering and overseeing the crackdown on demonstrators during the protests.
