KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa has urged party leaders not to panic over electoral defeat, saying losses are temporary and the party can rebound in the next election.

Speaking at a public event in Kathmandu on Friday, Thapa said worrying over defeat is unproductive and stressed that political parties go through cycles of wins and losses.

He also dismissed claims that his recent weight loss was due to election stress, saying it was for health reasons.

Thapa criticised the government’s ordinance related to the Constitutional Council, warning against arbitrary lawmaking without proper basis.

On ongoing evictions in Kathmandu, Thapa said the government was treating squatters inhumanely and urged authorities to identify genuine landless people and act within the law.
