KATHMANDU: The government has decided to dismantle politically affiliated student organizations from schools and universities within the next 60 days.

The move is part of a broader 100-point governance reform agenda aimed at improving the quality of education. Authorities say the decision is intended to curb political interference in the education sector, which has long been blamed for declining academic standards.

According to the plan, structures of party-affiliated student unions will be removed from educational institutions within the stipulated 60-day period. In their place, the government will establish Student Councils within 90 days to ensure that students’ voices are represented in a more inclusive and non-partisan manner.

The reform seeks to address concerns that political influence has overshadowed academic priorities and hindered the overall development of the education system.
