Govt. committed to international principles and stronger diplomacy: Foreign Minister Khanal

KATHMANDU: Minister for Foreign Affairs Shisir Khanal has said the government remains committed to established principles of international relations while advancing good governance and economic prosperity.

Responding to questions during the discussion on the Appropriation Bill in the House of Representatives on Thursday, Minister Khanal said the ministry is working within the constitutional framework of foreign policy to support national development and prosperity.

He said development assistance will be aligned with national priorities and systems, while Nepal’s international engagements will focus on fulfilling global commitments. He added that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs holds primary responsibility for conducting and supervising the country’s foreign relations, with diplomatic missions operating under its direction and oversight.

Minister Khanal said the government aims to make the ministry more effective and responsive to changing global dynamics, noting that budget and resource management has been prioritized. He expressed commitment to completing assigned tasks efficiently and economically while maximizing utilization of allocated funds.

He also informed that a proposal has been made to establish a Nepali Diaspora Global Network and to organize the second edition of the Sagarmatha Dialogue in the upcoming fiscal year.
