KATHMANDU: The House of Representatives meeting on Tuesday saw a series of pressing issues raised by lawmakers alongside a continued protest by an opposition party.

During the session, lawmakers Ninu Kumari Karna and Parbati B.K. urged the government to clarify allegations circulating on social media involving a ruling party (RSP) MP accused of allegedly luring a Nigerian woman into a relationship and abandoning her after she became pregnant.

The lawmakers described the case as serious emotional exploitation and called for an official investigation and clarification in Parliament.

Separately, RSP MP Janak Singh Dhami drew attention to the recurring flood risks in Kanchanpur, stressing that rivers have been causing severe hardship for residents of Laljhadi, Belauri, Bel Dandi, and Punarbas during the monsoon.

He demanded strong embankments and also called for the region, largely inhabited by the Rana Tharu community, to be declared a protected area.

In another intervention, MP Bishnu Maya B.K. criticized the condition of landless settlers placed in holding centres after their houses were demolished by bulldozer operations, citing a monitoring visit in Kavre that found poor living conditions, disrupted schooling for students, and severe mental distress among residents.

She urged the government to ensure rehabilitation, education continuity, and medical support for affected individuals.

Lawmakers also accused the government of pursuing policies that displace the poor through demolition drives.
MPs Bishnu Maya B.K., Shambhu Prasad Dhakal, and Nita Ghatani warned that growing hardship and rising suicides require urgent state attention.

Dhakal cited multiple suicide-related cases and urged impartial investigations and accountability for alleged workplace and social pressures, while Ghatani called for stronger action against caste-based discrimination, citing continued exclusion of Dalit individuals despite constitutional guarantees.

Meanwhile, MPs also raised concerns over increasing suicide cases and ongoing caste-based discrimination, urging the government to launch targeted interventions to ensure justice and equality.

Amid these discussions, the House proceedings were briefly disrupted as the opposition Shram Sanskriti Party staged a protest holding placards, continuing their demonstration for a second consecutive day to press their demands.
