KATHMANDU: Prime Minister and Chancellor of the Health Science Institutes, Balendra Shah ‘Balen’, has appointed new vice-chancellors to six health science institutes across the country.
The appointments to the vacant positions were made based on the recommendations of the Selection and Recommendation Committee.
The newly appointed individuals include Bibek Acharya as the Vice-Chancellor of the National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS), Nabees Man Singh Pradhan at the Patan Academy of Health Sciences, Smriti Karki at the B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Narayan Singh Gurung at the Pokhara Academy of Health Sciences, Suryaman Mehyangbo at the Karnali Academy of Health Sciences, and Ajay Kumar Mishra at the Rapti Academy of Health Sciences.
The Selection and Recommendation Committee, formed by the government for the appointment of Vice-Chancellors, had proceeded with the selection process in accordance with the “Integrated Procedure Regarding Selection and Recommendation of Vice-Chancellors of Health Science Institutes, 2026.”
Following the guidelines of the procedure, the committee had completed the selection process by releasing an initial shortlist of 42 candidates—at a rate of seven candidates for each institute.
Prime Minister Shah then appointed the Vice-Chancellors based on the committee’s final recommendations.
