KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has formed election committees in all 77 districts across the country for the upcoming conventions.
According to Bhuwan KC, the chief of the party’s Central Election Commission, a three-member election committee has been formed in each district for the district conventions to be conducted on Saturday and Sunday.
It is stated that the process has been postponed in some places and directives regarding re-election have been issued. The commission informed that the conventions in some local levels of Bagmati Province and Madhesh Province have been halted for the time being after complaints were filed, and instructions have been given to hold re-elections in certain areas.
According to the existing statute of the RSP, there is a provision for each district to have one Chairman, one Vice-Chairman, one Secretary, one Joint Secretary, five inclusive members, and one elected member from each constituency. Provisions are in place to form the district committee according to this structure.
Similarly, there is a provision for the Chairman to nominate one Treasurer from among the elected committee. It is also mentioned in the statute that the Chairman can nominate an additional two or three members to ensure that the total number of the district committee remains an odd number.
Previously, for the provincial conventions starting from June 9, the Central Election Commission had assigned central members the responsibility of convention coordination, facilitation, and the formation of provincial election commissions in all provinces except Karnali and Sudurpashchim.
