Businessman Ashwin Raut passes away following self-immolation attempt

KATHMANDU: Businessman Ashwin Raut, who sustained severe injuries after pouring petrol on himself and setting himself on fire, has passed away during treatment.

Rout had set himself on fire at his residence in Buddhanagar on Saturday morning.

According to police, he had suffered burns over more than 50 percent of his body and succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at Bir Hospital, where he had been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Preliminary police investigations suggest that the 45-year-old Raut set himself on fire due to personal stress.

He had been residing in Buddhanagar with his wife and son.

In a separate incident, Ganesh Nepali of Mugu, who had previously attempted self-immolation in front of the Department of Passports in Tripureshwar, also passed away during treatment on Friday.

Meanwhile, Bibek Mandal, who attempted self-immolation in Sarlahi, is currently undergoing treatment at the Kirtipur Hospital’s burn unit.
