TERHATHUM: Laligurans Municipality in Terhathum district has announced the launch of a “monkey driving” campaign to reduce agricultural damage caused by monkeys.

Issuing a public notice, the municipality said the drive will be conducted on May 15 and 16, aiming to chase monkeys beyond the municipal boundary.

Under the campaign, temporary structures have been set up in key areas of ward number 5, 6 and 8. Monkey watchers have also been deployed in these locations.

Mayor Arjun Mabohang stated that monkeys have caused significant damage to crops, forcing farmers to guard their fields day and night, and in some cases preventing children from attending school.

The municipality has urged farmers, elected representatives, employees, and residents to actively participate in the campaign.

Due to the need for large-scale mobilization, a public holiday has also been declared on May 15, except for essential services.
