COLOMBO: Former SriLankan Airlines Chief Executive Officer Kapila Chandrasena was found dead at his residence in Colombo’s Kollupitiya area on Friday, with police describing the circumstances as suspicious.

Authorities said his body was discovered hanging inside the house, and an investigation into the death is ongoing.

The incident came a day after a Colombo court issued an arrest warrant against Chandrasena over alleged violations of bail conditions in an ongoing corruption case. Anti-corruption investigators had sought to revoke his bail, accusing him of submitting unsuitable sureties to the court.

Chandrasena had been a key figure in a long-running investigation into SriLankan Airlines’ multibillion-dollar aircraft procurement deal signed in 2013.
