NEW DELHI: India’s selectors are expected to appoint Shreyas Iyer as the new T20I captain, replacing Surya Kumar Yadav, when the squad for the upcoming tours of Ireland and England is announced on Saturday.
According to reports, Surya Kumar could be left out of the squad following a modest T20 World Cup campaign and an underwhelming IPL season. Iyer, who has not played a T20 international since 2023, is set to return on the back of strong performances and a successful record as captain in the IPL.
Meanwhile, 15-year-old batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is in line for his first senior India call-up after an impressive IPL season. If selected, he would become one of the youngest players ever picked for India’s men’s team.
India will play two T20Is against Ireland later this month before a five-match series in England in July.
