RASUWA: Langtang National Park has experienced a significant downturn in revenue collection during the current fiscal year, a direct result of a sharp decline in tourist arrivals.

Faced with falling visitor numbers, the park administration is shifting its focus toward a new strategy that intertwines local tourism promotion with sustainable income generation and conservation.

Officials hope that by engaging local communities more deeply, they can revitalize the area’s appeal while maintaining strict environmental protections.

Data released by the park highlights a noticeable gap between this year’s footfall and previous records.

While approximately 56,000 tourists visited the protected area last fiscal year, only 50,360 individuals have made the journey so far in the current fiscal cycle.

A closer look at the demographics reveals that domestic travelers make up the vast majority of the traffic at 39,011 visitors, followed by 10,561 international tourists from overseas, and a smaller segment of 788 visitors arriving from SAARC nations.

This drop in visitor numbers has directly strained the park’s financial earnings. According to Langtang National Park Information Officer Ganesh Prasad Tiwari, revenue collection has dropped to roughly Rs 42.8 million so far this fiscal year, down from the Rs 57.7 million generated during the previous year.

The financial slump comes despite the enduring natural and spiritual appeal of the region, which hosts iconic Himalayan trekking routes and the sacred Gosaikunda pilgrimage site—destinations that historically secure a steady influx of both secular and religious travelers every year.
