KATHMANDU: The impact of the West Asia war has been seen in Nepal’s tourism, with arrivals falling by 7.3% during the peak April trekking and mountaineering season.
According to the Nepal Tourism Board, 107,934 tourists visited Nepal in April 2026, down from 116,490 in April 2025. The figure is slightly below April 2019 (109,399), before COVID-19.
South Asia remained the largest source, contributing 33,432 visitors (31%).
Arrivals included 26,726 from other Asian countries, 21,988 from Europe, 11,032 from the Americas, and smaller numbers from Oceania, West Asia, and Africa.
India was the top source with 25,196 visitors, followed by China (11,722), the US (8,724), Bangladesh (5,231), the UK (4,886), Germany (3,143), and Malaysia (3,085).
The board said escalating conflict in West Asia has disrupted air access and international promotion, affecting arrivals.
It stressed the need for stronger digital marketing and efforts to promote Nepal as a safe and attractive destination.
