Rain and snow predicted in Hilly regions, heatwave alert for Terai

KATHMANDU: Nepal is currently experiencing the combined influence of western winds, local winds, and a low-pressure system situated near the eastern part of the country.

According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD), skies are generally cloudy across the hilly and mountainous regions of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, as well as the mountainous areas of Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces.

Meanwhile, Madhesh Province and the hilly or mountainous parts of Lumbini Province are seeing partly cloudy skies, while the rest of the Terai plains remain mostly clear.

Currently, light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is occurring in a few places of Koshi and Gandaki provinces, with light rain reported in isolated areas of Bagmati Province.

This afternoon, Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces are expected to remain generally cloudy. The hilly and mountainous areas of the remaining provinces, including Madhesh, will see partial cloud cover, while the Terai regions are likely to remain mainly clear.

There is a possibility of moderate rain and snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning at some places in Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, and at a few places in the hilly and mountainous regions of Madhesh, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim provinces.

The Meteorological Department has also warned of hot daytime conditions in the hilly areas of Sudurpashchim and Lumbini provinces, along with possible heatwave conditions in the Terai regions.

Tonight, generally cloudy conditions will persist across Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, along with the mountainous regions of other provinces, while the remaining hilly areas stay partly cloudy and the Terai plains remain mostly clear.

The Division has indicated that light to moderate rain or snow accompanied by thunder and lightning remains likely in some parts of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, alongside a few places in Madhesh Province and the hilly or mountainous terrains of Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim provinces.
