BUTWAL: Sainamaina in Rupandehi district recorded the highest rainfall in the country over the last 24 hours, measuring a significant 153.2 millimeters.

According to Binu Maharjan, a meteorologist at the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, parts of Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim provinces experienced heavy to very heavy rainfall during this 24-hour period.

In contrast, Madhesh Province saw relatively less rainfall. While the weather bureau noted that no area experienced heavy rainfall in the last six hours—with most places seeing light to moderate showers and the western Terai of Lumbini recording 24 millimeters—active weather systems are expected to continue throughout the day.

For this afternoon, the department has forecast moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning across several mountain areas and numerous hilly regions.

Similar weather is predicted for many plains (Terai) areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpashchim provinces, as well as some parts of Madhesh Province.

Meteorologists have also warned of potential heavy rainfall in a few hilly and plains areas of Koshi and Sudurpashchim provinces, with isolated heavy downpours also possible in the hilly terrains of Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Karnali.

The rainy pattern will persist into the night, bringing moderate rainfall, thunder, and lightning to various locations across Madhesh, Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces, alongside parts of the hills in Karnali and Sudurpashchim.

As isolated heavy rainfall remains a threat tonight in the hills and plains of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces, the department has urged residents living in vulnerable zones to remain highly vigilant against the risks of flash floods, landslides, inundation, and debris flows.
