KATHMANDU: Nepal Police Additional Inspector General (AIG) Rabindra KC tendered his resignation today, reportedly under intense pressure from the Home Minister.

According to high-level sources, KC was compelled to step down as part of efforts to promote DIGP Janak Bhattarai, who is set to retire next month, to the position of Deputy Inspector General of Police. “This condition was imposed on him when he was promoted to AIG,” stated a senior police official, adding that KC had been under significant pressure to resign.

KC, who had been serving in the Provincial Coordination Department after his promotion to AIG just a month ago, submitted his resignation, which has not yet been formally accepted. The matter is expected to be reviewed at Monday’s cabinet meeting, after which the promotion process for DIGP will proceed. Anonymous sources revealed that Bhattarai’s temporary promotion to AIG is intended to enhance service facilities, a move that may further strain the state treasury as the current Home Ministry, under Ramesh Lakeh’s leadership, pursues short-term promotions to bolster special services.
