KATHMANDU: Mahashivaratri is being celebrated across the country today, with Hindu devotees offering prayers to Lord Shiva.

People are gathering at Shiva temples to perform special rituals in honor of the deity.

Devotees started arriving at Pashupatinath Temple in Kathmandu early this morning.

To accommodate the large number of worshippers, all four entrances of the temple have been open since 3 am.

Sadhus from Nepal and India have also arrived at Pashupatinath Temple, where the Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT) provides them with money and offerings.

On this sacred day, which coincides with Krishna Chaturdashi, devotees are visiting various “Shivalayas” (Shiva temples) to participate in the festivities.

Shiva rituals are being held at several temples, including Haleshi and Devghat, to honor Lord Shiva.

The PADT has made special arrangements to ensure a smooth visit for devotees coming to Pashupatinath Temple during this significant religious occasion.
