KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has summoned a Cabinet meeting scheduled for 8 PM tonight at his official residence in Baluwatar.
According to the Prime Minister’s secretariat, the session aims to address several key issues that were left pending after Monday’s public holiday delayed the regular meeting.
One of the major agendas for tonight’s meeting is the potential appointment of a new member to the Recommendation Committee for the Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank.
The committee has been short of one member since the resignation of Dr. Bishwo Paudel, creating a crucial vacancy in the decision-making process.
Sources indicate that an internal understanding has been reached between the ruling parties, Nepali Congress and CPN-UML, to elevate Dr. Paudel to the role of Governor.
His name has been at the forefront of discussions ever since he stepped down from the committee. However, the appointment process has recently sparked controversy, with political maneuvering intensifying as the decision nears.
