KATHMANDU: A police operation to apprehend drug smugglers near Grande Hospital in Tokha turned violent today, resulting in a shooting.
Two suspected drug smugglers were shot by police while trying to evade arrest. Both smugglers were found in possession of over 150 grams of brown sugar, a highly addictive narcotic.
During the clash, two police personnel also sustained injuries and were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Authorities confirmed that the injured officers are currently stable.
The police had received intelligence about the smugglers’ movements and launched a timely operation.
