KATHMANDU: A team deployed from the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), based in Tangal, Kathmandu, has taken Madhesh Provincial Assembly Member Saroj Kumar Singh into custody on charges of misusing funds allocated to consumer committees.
According to the Commission, an investigation was initiated based on a complaint that Singh, who was elected from Mahottari Constituency No. 4 (B), had formed various consumer committees and then withdrew funds deposited in those committees’ accounts through his personal secretary, Binod Kumar Lal Kayastha.
The withdrawn money was allegedly transferred to Singh’s own bank account as well as to that of his wife.
Based on this complaint, Singh was arrested at around 6 PM on Thursday (June 12), near Ratna Rajya School in Kathmandu Metropolitan City Ward No. 10.
He is currently in the custody of the Commission, spokesperson Rajendra Kumar Paudel confirmed.
