KATHMANDU: Kathmandu’s Nagarjun Municipality Mayor Mohan Bahadur Basnet has been found guilty in a money laundering case.
The Special Court delivered the verdict in response to a case filed by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on 14 Poush 2081 (December 29, 2024).
A bench comprising Judges Tek Narayan Kunwar and Ram Bahadur Thapa convicted Basnet on Friday.
The court has also scheduled a separate hearing to determine his sentence.
The court further ruled that Basnet had accepted a bribe of Rs 92.2 million from Raju Prasad Kandel, the operator and chairperson of Padma Colony and Padma Merchant Company Pvt. Ltd.
The Special Court has found that Basnet laundered a total of Rs 131.2 million.
