KATHMANDU: The Parsa District Court issued an arrest warrant against Lumbini Province Assembly member Suman Sharma Rayamajhi, accusing her of banking fraud.
Rayamajhi, who was elected through proportional representation from the Janamat Party, remains at large. On June 17, Parsa police officially requested Bardiya police to arrest her and hand her over. The warrant, however, was made public only on Sunday.
The complaint against Rayamajhi was filed by Asha Kumari Chauhan, a fellow leader from the same party. Chauhan alleges that Rayamajhi borrowed Rs 550,000 from her and issued multiple cheques in repayment.
When all the cheques bounced, Chauhan filed a complaint with the Parsa District Police Office. As a result, Rayamajhi now faces charges split between cheque dishonor and banking fraud under existing legal provisions.
The relationship between Chauhan and Rayamajhi reportedly developed within the party. Chauhan had hosted Rayamajhi at her home for ten days during a program in Parsa. During this time, she provided financial support for hotel expenses, clothing, and cash.
“I trusted her because she was a provincial assembly member and believed the money would be returned. But in the end, I felt cheated,” said Chauhan.
Rayamajhi had claimed she was preparing to become a minister, which helped her gain Chauhan’s trust. Chauhan said she raised the matter within the party several times, but no one paid attention. Feeling ignored and betrayed, she ultimately turned to the police in search of justice.
