DHANGADHI: Dhangadhi, the temporary capital of Sudurpashchim Province, recorded 200 millimeters of rainfall in the past 24 hours — the highest ever in the city’s history, according to Sanjay Kumar Sah, chief engineer at the Mahakali Basin Office in Attariya.
Rainfall began on Sunday afternoon, but the heavy downpour started around 4 a.m. Monday, Sah said. “It’s still raining in Dhangadhi, but the intensity is expected to decrease by tonight,” he added.
Even heavier rainfall was recorded in Belauri of Kanchanpur district, which received 264.6 mm in the same 24-hour period.
Similarly, Khallakot in Krishnapur Municipality, Kanchanpur, received 184 mm of rain.
The Mahakali Basin Office reported moderate to light rainfall across all nine districts of Sudurpashchim Province and forecast continued moderate rainfall throughout the week.
Due to the persistent rain, the flow in the Doda River has increased. Authorities expect the rainfall to affect settlements around the Mohana River, including parts of Dhangadhi and surrounding areas.
