Monsoon conditions persist across Nepal; heavy rainfall and landslide alerts issued

KATHMANDU: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology’s Weather Forecasting Division has reported that monsoon winds are currently active across the country. The monsoon trough is located near its average position.

According to the division, partial to generally cloudy conditions prevail over the hilly areas of Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces, while other regions are experiencing partly cloudy to mostly clear weather.

Light to moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning is occurring in some areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Karnali provinces.

This afternoon, most parts of the country will remain partly to generally cloudy.

There is a chance of light to moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning in some hilly areas of Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and other provinces. Isolated locations in Gandaki, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces may witness heavy rainfall.

Similarly, light to moderate rain and snowfall are possible in some high hilly and Himalayan regions.

Tonight, the weather will remain partly to generally cloudy across the country.

There is a likelihood of light to moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning in some hilly areas of Koshi, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces, and in a few other areas as well. Heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places in Koshi, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces.

Given the possibility of heavy rain in different parts of the country, the Division has urged all to take necessary precautions against potential landslides, floods, and debris flows.
