KATHMANDU: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast heavy rainfall in various parts of five provinces due to active monsoon conditions across Nepal.

According to the Weather Forecasting Division, the monsoon low-pressure line is currently near its average position in the eastern part of the country and slightly north of average in the west. This has intensified monsoon activity across Nepal.

The department has predicted heavy rainfall at one or two places in Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Karnali provinces this afternoon.

The weather is expected to remain partly to generally cloudy across the country, with chances of light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in some hilly regions—particularly in Bagmati, Gandaki, and Sudurpaschim provinces.

For tonight, generally cloudy skies are expected in the hilly areas of Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, with partly cloudy conditions elsewhere.

Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely in these provinces, and isolated heavy rainfall is possible in Madhes, Bagmati, and Gandaki.

High hill and mountainous regions may experience light to moderate rain and snowfall. The Division has warned of possible floods, landslides, and flash floods in affected areas.

Urban and Terai regions could face waterlogging, while rising water levels in rivers and streams may impact daily life, farming, health services, tourism, and transport.

Given the potential hazards, the Department has advised both the public and concerned agencies to take necessary precautions and remain prepared for any emergencies.
