KATHMANDU: Former Prime Minister and Nepal Samajwadi Party (Naya Shakti) Chair Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has launched a sharp attack on the country’s three dominant political parties, accusing them of failing to address Nepal’s deep-rooted structural problems.
On Sunday morning, Bhattarai posted a photo on social media featuring Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, Prime Minister and UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli, and Maoist Centre Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’.
The post served as a backdrop to a strongly worded critique of Nepal’s political leadership.
Bhattarai, a former comrade of Prachanda in the Maoist movement, reserved his most pointed remarks for the Maoist leader.
“Even when the supreme leader of the third major party leads the government with full authority, he has failed to address the core issues,” Bhattarai wrote.
He further stated, “The biggest achievement of the current government has been to prove that institutional corruption, unemployment, underdevelopment, dependency, and environmental degradation cannot be solved by these traditional parties, regardless of how often they rotate power.”
Bhattarai predicted that history will eventually favor new and alternative political forces.
“The real question now is how they will prepare for this responsibility,” he said, urging all political actors to engage in honest self-reflection: “Shouldn’t everyone place a hand on their chest and ask themselves honestly—‘Me?’”
