KATHMANDU: The government has launched disciplinary action against civil servants accused of receiving salaries and allowances despite failing to return to duty after the expiration of study leave or other approved leave.

Government agencies have started issuing notices seeking explanations from employees who have remained out of contact for extended periods. On Tuesday alone, three agencies initiated action.

The Ministry of Infrastructure Development issued notices to eight employees through Gorkhapatra, while the Ministry of Industry sought an explanation from one employee. The Office of the Auditor General also demanded an explanation from one employee who did not report back after leave ended.

Officials said monitoring has been intensified to identify employees who misuse leave and remain absent from work. The government is preparing to proceed with service termination procedures if the explanations submitted are deemed unsatisfactory.
