Fugitive defendant in banking offense case arrested

KATHMANDU: Police have arrested and made public a fugitive defendant involved in a banking offense case today.

According to Superintendent of Police Kaji Kumar Acharya, spokesperson for the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, 50-year-old Tejumaya Gurung, originally from Maijuwawa, Ward No. 2 of Sandakpur Rural Municipality in Ilam and currently residing in Sukhadhar, Ward No. 4 of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, was arrested and made public.

He stated, “Based on a complaint filed by Jyoti Shrestha, the Government of Nepal was the plaintiff and Tejumaya Gurung the defendant in a banking offense case. According to the decision of the Patan High Court dated 17th of Shrawan, 2079 B.S., she was sentenced to pay a fine of NPR 350,000, serve three days in prison, and deposit NPR 16,000 to the Victim Relief Fund as compensation. She had been absconding, but was arrested today.”

The police have stated that Gurung has been sent to the Kathmandu District Court in Babarmahal for the execution of the court’s verdict.
