Monsoon active across Nepal, heavy rain forecast in hilly regions

KATHMANDU: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology’s Weather Forecasting Division has reported that monsoon winds are currently active across Nepal, with the monsoon trough situated near its average position.

According to the division, most parts of the country are experiencing generally cloudy weather. Light to moderate rainfall is occurring at a few locations in Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, Gandaki, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces, as well as in isolated parts of Lumbini Province.

During the afternoon, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy nationwide. There is a likelihood of moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning in some hilly areas of Bagmati, Gandaki, and Sudurpaschim Provinces, and at a few places in the Tarai.

Additionally, heavy rainfall is possible at one or two locations in the hilly areas of Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini Provinces.

Tonight, moderate rain with thunder and lightning is also likely in some hilly areas of Gandaki Province and other regions, along with light to moderate showers in a few Tarai locations. Heavy rainfall is expected in one or two places.

The department has urged the public to remain alert and stay updated with the latest weather forecasts, as moderate to heavy rainfall is likely in many parts of the country.
