Heavy rainfall raises flood risks in several districts across nation

KATHMANDU: Currently, the country is under the influence of monsoon winds. The monsoon’s low-pressure trough is situated near average positions in the west and slightly north of average in the east.

Today, heavy rainfall is possible in some hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces. According to the Flood Forecasting Division, river flows of Koshi, Narayani, Karnali, Mahakali, Kamala, Bagmati, Eastern Rapti, Western Rapti, Babai, and Kankai are currently below alert levels.

On Tuesday, flows in small rivers originating from districts such as Solukhumbu, Ramechhap, Okhaldhunga, Sankhuwasabha, Dolakha, Sindhupalchok, Rasuwa, Dhading, Nuwakot, Dolpa, Jajarkot, Western Rukum, Bajhang, Doti, and nearby areas are expected to rise significantly, with a high risk of flash floods.

Similarly, small rivers in districts including Ilam, Jhapa, Khotang, Bhojpur, Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Kavrepalanchok, Chitwan, Sindhuli, Udayapur, Gorkha, Lamjung, Tanahun, Kaski, Syangja, Baglung, Parbat, East and West Nawalparasi, Eastern Rukum, Salyan, Surkhet, Dailekh, Achham, Kailali, and surrounding areas are forecasted to experience notable increases in flow, with a moderate risk of flash floods.
