INARUWA: The water flow in the Saptakoshi River has surged significantly due to ongoing rainfall.

On Sunday evening, the water discharge at the Koshi Barrage was measured at 191,210 cusecs per second.

According to SP Nirmal Thapa of Armed Police Force, this morning’s measurement recorded a water flow of 175,685 cusecs per second through the Koshi Barrage.

Out of the total 56 sluice gates, including 52 main gates and 4 canal gates, 23 have been opened to manage the rising water level.

As a precautionary measure, a red warning light has been turned on to alert the public, since the water flow has exceeded 150,000 cusecs, which is considered a danger level.

The Koshi Barrage Control Room confirmed the activation of the red alert.

It is worth noting that on August 18, 2008, the Saptakoshi River had breached its eastern embankment when the water flow reached 168,000 cusecs.
